Recenlyn lost mist if my saved data on this subject, and I am having a hard time finding the topics I had previously read. I have used the search button many times, bust still need some assistance.

I started casting for my ar. It has a 1in 7 twist rate. I am using gas checked lee bator molds that are powder coated and they come out to about 53 grains. My question comes with the powders I can use. I currently have h355, h4895, varget, unique, and imr4895. My local supply store recently got most of the alliant powders in stock like reloaded 7,22,25 10x, etc.

I know the 4895 powders I should start at 18 grains or so. My questions are will any of the powders I currently own or have access to work as well? The more options I have the better. I know my ar will not cycle 4895 at 18 grains with a reduced power spring, so I am slowly working up from there. Any other info you have will be much appreciated. Thanks again everyone.

Jacob, go to the bottom of the page, below, click on CastPics. Click on the appropriate links until you get to "Load Data". You may have to play with it for awhile, but what you're
looking for is there. All great information. Hope this helps,

HV

I went through the data there, but those all seem like very low charges. I think those loads were for bolt guns and not an ar15. I could be wrong on that, so another opinion would be much appreciated.

Check out my test of PC'd bullets in the AR using H4895 in; http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?236746-Test-of-leadman-s-225438s-and-314299s-at-high-velocity

I suggest you lube them also (assuming they are GC'd also?) and use H4895. Start at 18 gr with your 7" twist and use a 1/2 gr Dacron filler. Work up to 25 gr and stopping when accuracy really goes south. Using a hard alloy and Thing may also be beneficial prior to PCing.

How new is this AR? I know before they break in good they can have issues cycling lighter loads. My son has a 5.56 upper that is well broken in that cycles at 16gr H4895 with a 55gr 1-9" with a carbine length gas system.

It has had about 500 rounds through it. It has a Wolff reduced power spring, but even at 19 grains of either 4895 powder, It will eject old rounds, but will not feed new ones. So frustrating at this point.
