The local True Value Hardware gives a 5% discount to seniors OR a 10% to veterans. I don't know if it's a countrywide thing or not though. Heck, even the Volunteers of America & Goodwill stores give a senior discount.

My wife and I go out to dinner to celebrate our birthdays, and such.
Last August it was her birthday, and we decided to try a recently-opened Mexican restaraunt called 'On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina'.

When asked 'how we were doing' I mentioned that we liked the food ... and were happy that we chose to celebrate my wife's birthday there.
The waiter enthusiastically told us that we qualified for 'the birthday discount'. Provide a picture ID with proof of age, and the bill for her meal is reduced by a percentage equal to her years of age.

My wife was 73 last year ...

Before Obamacare,
For the uninsured, My local 'private' clinic had a 20% discount if your income was less than the State Governor's salary...and they also offered 100% discount if your household income was below twice the federal poverty rate and you were rejected from Medicaid.
BUT YOU HAVE TO ASK !
Last fall I first learned of their policy, which had been in place for several years...most of those years I could have taken advantage of those discounts...NOW, because of Obamacare they have been eliminated. Talk about poor timing on my part :(

If you are a veteran there are many places that give you a discount also. It helps to have a VA ID card but I know vets that carry a copy of their DD214.
Home Depot is one place I get the discount along with a discount on my Verizon bill.

Thanks to the OP for posting this.

Some states will now add your veteran status to your drivers license. It's easier than carrying a DD214 copy.

DCP - printed the list. Wife had it Sunday on our shopping trip. Saved me enough to fill the gas tank, no mean feat today. With very much thanks for your effort.
Can I nominate this for a sticky?

While the details of some of the discounts are incorrect, there ARE discounts available out there. Like the poster and the original website posting states. you have to ask in a lot of cases.

I was in Pep Boys auto parts and repair store today. They had a sign by the door, looked like a corporate sign fairly small print, it said they give a 10% discount to Military and 10% off for seniors on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remember to ask for it.

Remember, AARP is an anti-gun lobby group. Take a look at AMAC.US
