I recently built the wife a new platform bed with drawers underneath. This is a real Texas bed as the main lumber is Texas Eastern Red Cedar that I cut logs, cured in barn, and sawed myself. The drawer fronts are Texas Mesquite that is left over flooring from the house I built my son. It is 5" X 3/4" t&g. I had a bunch of short pieces left over or slightly culled because of visual/non structural defects. I have used wood military ammo boxes (WWII, Korea and Vietnam era) to store ammo, tractor parts, machine parts and just "stuff" for years and like the design so I built some boxes to make use of the available leftovers. I also had a bunch of original hinges from US ammo crates. Some of the boxes are all Red Cedar and some have Mesquite lids. 104960

I also built some bench open top boxes out of the scraps. I like to make things out of leftovers and throw-aways. In the top picture you see some "original" GI boxes under my casting bench that are full of lead alloy ingots. The long one in the floor is full of cast bullets--some heavy. I would not build these to sell, but enjoy looking at them and using them.

If you ever decided to go into business, I see a great retirement income possibility here.

A $500 minimum order and an online menu of standard choices would fit under most people's benches!

Those are very nice....and yes you could sell them as fast as you could make them.
