From what I have read it is not uncommon for the ruger black hawks to need some cylinder work to work well with cast. Is this problem common with the redhawk too?

I can't answer about the Redhawk revolvers, but both my Blackhawks in .45 Colt are great shooters, and I'm finicky about accuracy. I haven't done a thing to them, other than shoot them, but I don't load barn burner loads for them, either.

Hope this helps.

Ruger. 45 Colt cylinder throats usually run .451-.452, just check your cylinder with olug gages and size bullets to correct diameter. If cylinder throata are tighter they can be reamed to .452 - .4525 and you are off and running.

My Old model Blackhawk cylinders are .454, my new model is .452, my Redhawk is .452.

I plan on opening all to .454 so I only need to size one batch.

It isn't a problem IF you can push the boolits into the cylinder throats from the front. If you can't, then the throats are likely downsizing your boolits as they pass through. The other thing, Ruger cylinder throats are notorious for being a little out of round/oval/egg shaped. A .4525" reamer straightens them out nicely, I do several Ruger .45 cylinders a week.

No accuracy issues with any 45Colt Ruger I've owned. Includes multiple Blackhawks and Redhawks.

An old modle Vaquero I have needed to be opened up (45 Colt). Now a GP100 I recently got (new) was spot on in 357.

I have one that is 12 years old and my sons is 4 yrs old. Both had throats from .448"-.451" Reaming them improved accuracy a lot.

I had a Redhawk in 45 Colt that was terrible. The throats were like .448". I tried loading some 300gn XTPs seated deap and they would not even chamber. :(
