I read on-line somewhere that an "Old Silhouette Shooters" load was 20g of IMR 4227 under 250-280gr Boolits.
I assume that was an IHMSA load.
I have an old manual that lists 21gr of IMR 4227 as max for Ruger .45 Colts.
How to you think that load will perform in a 20" rifle?

I do not know about a 20"barrel, but my 94 Trapper likes IMR4227 in it's 16"barrel. Not sure on the amount of velocity increase as I have not put any over the chrono.

I just got back from the range...I'm going to stick with IMR 4227 as long as I can find this powder. Tight groups right down the middle. Now I can quit looking for the "right" powder for my .45 Colt rifle. A little but smokey, but the accuracy with 20gr of IMR 4227 and a 250g LSWC was amazing in my Rossi.

I'm happy now,

IMR 4227 left a lot of grit in the bore for me (don't really care too much about that, but getting peppered while cycling the action got old quick....) so I loaded up some with 2400 to try. But I do have to admit, it WAS an accurate load.....

I have run IMR 4227 in my 92 44/40 a lot. It was very accurate but left a lot of soot in the barrel. But? It still shot good enough that I didn't worry about it.

2400 is non-existant here in mid-America. And, yes 4227 is dirty, but I used Dyna-Bore Coat on my Rossi - now clean up is a couple of patches and leading has gone away. I don't know if it has any affect on accuracy - this trip to the range was the first time I'd used in in my 92...I don't know if its the 4227 or the Dyna-Bore or the two together, but I'm gonna stay with this set up for the summer.

Quickload thinks that you'll gain about 200fps in a 20" bbl
