I received a new Kahr CT 40 test sample to try and I figured a .40 S&W ballistic test would be a good start.
I have never been a fan of the .40 but after what I learned from the test I would feel confident in carrying that caliber in defense.

Thoughts please,

Nice piece Hunter. I might include a graphic and a paragraph showing how this performance compared with other known defense loads. I.E. 45acp, 357Mag., 9mm, and your beloved 10mm.
For the record I carry a 40 S&W for personal defense (180gr. WW).

Not that it means much but the 40S&W is what almost all of the Municipal police forces and Provincial forces use up here. The Federal forces use the 9MM exclusively. I am not sure the cartridge has any real world advantages over the 9MM but we have it and some like it.

Good review Hunter as always.

Take Care

Nice article. Glad you posted, didn't know Kahr had a few new models. Love my little CM9, they finally released a CM45! Been waiting on a small/light 45 and nothing else on the market really appeals to me.

Thank you very much.
I truly appreciate all of your kind words. Once I have the 9mm Luger .357/.38, and .357 Sig done I plan on doing a large chart showing the compiled results.
I am then going to take the best performers and do a more in depth testing.

I have large palm and shorter fingers and find the CM40 very controllable. Nice pick up for you.

Back when I worked trauma ER those rolling in whacked with a .40 were either dead or very close to being there (we called it circling the drain). Same for .357. Not so much with other calibers.

That is some pretty good information. With what you said is the .40 S&W one of your carry rounds? I am needing something lighter and smaller than my G20 for the summer. I have not been a big fan of the .40 up until now and I am thinking the Kahr CT 40 may be a good option.

I am a big fan of the .40.I used to shoot a min of 100 rds a week and got good enough that I felt comfortable with it. Then I got away from the 40 due to hand problems..Problems with my hands are fixed and now I'm thinking 40 again someday...The forty has a lot of advantages, finding brass is one of them. Oh, being a controllable kick a$$ round is another.

A fiend of mine asked me; Why the 40 and not the 45...........I said to him; Put a 100 rds in your pocket of each and tell me which would you rather carry.

The Kahr is a very nice carry gun.
