Might be good if you leave it in the pot with the melt. If you scoop it in cold, lead will make it a ladle instead of a screen when it freezes across the mesh.

I found a really nasty looking old dutch oven with no lid, a big one, for like - .50 cents or something ridiculous. So nasty they priced it almost free. Perfect for smelting w/w's in! Also found my ladle and big slotted spoon for dirt cheap. And Lord only knows how much other stuff I've dragged home.
