So far you have listed ones that will. Put them in the lungs and all will work fine, bust a leg on the back side and they won't go far.

Thank you kindly. They be fine out to 50-75 meters for hunting also, the 45lc is new here.

I have a buddy that casts, I don't yet, so he was going to cast me what I want, I just need to supply the mold.

H110 is your friend in loading these for hunting. Some guys like Unique and I use it +2400 quite a bit but I am a firm believer in H110/W296 for hunting loads

The RCBS 45-270-SAA can be made to work, but the front driving band extends into the throats on many of my guns, and has to be sized to fit. I suggest one of the other choices would lead to more immediate success.

I am partial to the 255gr. I don't see the need for a bigger boolit for deer, black bear or moose.

MiHas rendition of the 45-270-SAA is one of my all time favorites in my SW Mountain Gun. Behind 13-13.5 gr of HS-6, you'll have a moderate pressure load that is suitble to the N frame and anchor anything that needs anchoring with a handgun. It will get me over 1000 fps out of the Mountain Gun and 1350 fps out of my 1894CB

For Reference Only:

Out of a BH Bisley and a stiff charge of 296

360gr LFNGC at 1125fps

305gr MP 45-297 at 1150fps

250gr XTP at 1280fps

Huntersdog;
Either of the two heavier bullets will be prime choices. My personal choice for MY .45 Colt Rugers is the Mihec version of the RCBS 45-270-SAA. It is a MOST versatile bullet and has a lot of good design features that minimize problems in using. (Good weight for the caliber, wide meplat, plain base and excellent crimp groove). It's weight actually is about 285 grs with my alloy (WW's+2% tin).

Brian Pearce did an excellent article for just this bullet in the Handloader. If you want a copy of that article, just PM me with your email address.

I am shooting the Lee 310 grain 44 mag. With a healthy dose of WW-296, it should shoot lengthwise through a deer or blackbear. Oh, It's also SUPER accurate.

Depends on which 45 Colt are we talking about? I have 3 molds, and the one that gets used 5X more than the other 2 combined is the 45-270SAA. Mine drops a 289gr bullet, and is the most accurate bullet I have fired from any of my 45 Colts.

A huge +1 to the 45-270SAA. My Blackhawk,TC, and Marlin load is 10 grains of unique; other loads listed above should work equally well.
Side by side mud pit comparions with factory .44 mag 240 gr. jacketed in an identical BH gives the edge to the 45-270SAA just a bit...... big bang, big splat, basket ball sized holes.
Side by side pig shoulder comparions with the same factory .44 mag shows about equal damage on one side... except that the cast bullet 45-270SAA damage is clear through BOTH shoulders.
Loaded smartley, the 45-270SAA simply POUNDS pigs and other critters with extreme prejudice.

It would be for a Ruger Blackhawk nm 45 Colt.
Can the Ruger only loads be used in the large frame and standard frame Ruger 45 Colts?
Thank y`all for your Recommendations.

Ruger only loads should be safe in any NM Ruger in good condition, they are not for the New Vaquero or the Flattop 45 Colt, those must be restricted to 45 ACP +P pressures. The beauty is, the 45 Colt doesn't need as much velocity, at 1000 fps, I doubt there are very many animals on North America that could withstand a shot through the lungs from the 289gr bullet. I have shot a lot of 255gr RNFP bulets, and 255gr SWC, and in my large framed Rugers, a lot of 325gr bullets have been fired, but for all around use the 270SAA bullet simply outshines them. Now I still use the 255 RNFP for reduced recoil loads in my Flattop 45 for my wife, and the big 325s are the main bullet for my 454, but I do love the SAA, so much in fact that I retired my RCBS mold in favor of a 4 cavity copy from Miha.

I own both, prefer the 270gr SAA, which actually comes in around 280gr, for all my heavy 45colt loads. Very accurate, hits really hard & if I want more, I cup point it to 270gr, as done by Erik @ HPMS. In solid form, it penetrates more than 20" of wetpack, better than my 400gr softs in the 404jeffery running 2200fps. I doubt anything flesh & blood is stopping that bullet.

What velocity was the 270 SAA running when it ran through 20" of wetpack, Fred?

I still have a handful of your bullets, and the hp's you threw in are mean customers at 1,000 fps from my Montado.
