I picked up 3300 rounds of .40 brass from my local brass monger.
I suspect most of this brass came from a police range as a good deal of it is Speer and quite a few nickel plate.
It was extremely dirty but I paid less because the monger didn't run it thru his stainless pin tumbler. It tends to beat up the case mouth and leave it jagged.
Anyhow... as I was cleaning this stuff up I noticed the firing pin indentions in the primers. It looked like a little flame marking, and the edges were very sharp. I have never seen this before and was curious. With the wealth of knowledge and experience I know someone can tell me what I am seeing.

I think that is called a firing pin wipe. I believe the cause is the barrel unlocks from the slide too early. The barrel moves down while the firing pin is retracting, causing the the teardrop impression in the primer.

Most likely shot from Glocks. They have an elongated firing pin nose, so leave a distinct rectangular print on the primer.

Yep...that ammo has been shot from a Glock. Also, you will probably notice a small flat area at the mouth of the case...it's from the case mouth hitting the slide.

Are you positive that the 7.62x25 cases pictured were fired from a Glock? Glock firing pin strikes looks similar, but are more symmetrical.

I just fired a bunch of .45acp last week testing powder coated boolits. I'll have to sort out the ones from the Glock for some pics.

the above picture is NOT a GLOCK firing pin strike it's an example of the firing pin not being retracted while the barrel unlocks, notice the pistol above the cases is NOT a GLOCK...

THIS IS A GLOCK FIRING PIN STRIKE

The marks that I am seeing are either skinny rectangles (Glock) or the other, that looks like a small flame. Which I would assume is a Glock with a somewhat mis-shapen firing pin. That last set of pictures explains it. I have never put much thought into what a Glock pin looks like...Now I know

Dont forget #3 to remove and clean out the valve. He he, couldn't resist. Tell Matt to get on it.

Cool office magnifier thingamajig. Gotta get me one of those.

Top one is definitely a glock, and by the looks of it a piece of carbon or other debris is stuck at the bottom of the firing pin hole.

Looks like Glock had to design the wedge shaped firing pin to keep it from being broken by the wiping action.

One of my cousins is an armorer for Warren County Kentucky Sheriff Dept.
In explaining the funky Glock firing pin he said it was designed that way because if cleans itself with every shot by passing thru the sharp edges in the slide.
Don't throw rocks,Im just passing along what was shared with me.
