Renard 50 RB
I am a sucker for false muzzle, sealed ignition underhammers
This one is light, maybe 30lbs. It has both a rear aperture sight and the unertl tube sight (as shown.) I will probably shoot it with the tube.

Sorry, I shouldn't have abbreviated
50 caliber round ball
Assuming slow twist.
Previous owner had noted that it liked 110g Ffg and 0.020 patch. I shoot Teflon so will give it a try at that and see

should drive tacks and be very easy on the wallet to shoot. i had a 36 inch barreled .50 1/72 twist custom roundball gun once and took a coyote at 200 yards with it, it was fast, flat, and accurate. gave it to my son and his brother in law did the same thing with it, a coyote at 200 yards. let us know what it does on the range.

I consider myself lucky to have a Hopkins & Allen "Off Hand" underhammer. I can hardly imagine what your new rifle cost, but I bet it was enough to get a nice used car. What is a teflon patch, how do you use them and where do you get them?

thank you!
this one was cheap. there isn't much of a market for these big guns even though the work is outstanding.
They are way undervalued, you can usually find a good one for around 1k or less. Sad, I believe but good for me, though for my heavy guns:
1) 2 action 4 barrel set (so 4 guns)
2) .69 caliber beast (1 gun)
3) 32-40 muzzle loader/breech loader (1 gun)
4) and this one (1 gun)

7 guns = 30- 80 lbs per gun, it may be time to stop

Teflon, sprayed on a patch 0.015 or 0.020 thickness. food grade. I buy it from The minutemen. It shoots great when loading super tight (meaning you will be wiping between shots for sure). google may find them, I have there contact info somewhere. Just ordered a bunch to last me a month or two ago.

good shooting at 200 Johnson. this one is set up for target as it is a sight tube, then a front aperture so it isn't great for shooting anything other than something that is round (a target). basically, one circle focused on a smaller circle, then a smaller circle. My favorite site setups by far, even better than a scope (more fun)

build one just like that in fast twist and use the single wrap chase paperpatch system and you could take flys off a board at 200 yards. use the coated freezer wrap paper. i saw it on slug guns on the internet. so i tried it with a fast twist hunting .50 and boy does it shoot. i can use either freezer wrap paper or 18 lb. artist paper with thompson bore butter rubbed into it. both papers are the same diam. the bullet is just 5 thousands under top of the lands bore diam.

wow, post as many pictures as you want, i love looking at real workmanship. guns that shoot holes in holes never get boreing. i just posted a picture of my modified buffalo classic on the single shot section. most of my guns are paperpatch. that one shoots a 450 grain .440 dry patched bullet. man, the big bore really must reach out and touch at long ranges.

OH Gosh!!!!
I havent sen a slug gun since I was a young guy, at Friendship In.
Those guys loaded with a false muzzle, and paper patched a little cross on the muzzle.
They had a mechanical boolit starter for the muzzle.
Gosh they could shoot.!!!!!!!

Yep kens, that is how they load. Sadly, I have never been to friendship and have no local mentor. Just here shooting by my lonesome and learning what I can from the net and experimenting.

I agree john and hornady308. Both addicting and fine pieces of work.

Johnson, still working on the beast and loads. I have not stretched it out to see what it can do. I also have not used the load data yet that came with it (1755 grain slug with 300-350 g Fg) Oof!

I have 4 of the h & a under hammers one is a unfired offhand with peep sight marbles barrel sight and the hooded front. the other I jus changed sights on to use for off hand. the third was my first I used it for years for off hand now it is my chunk rifle. the las one is a barreled action I picked up to build something out of.

I thought I had contact info on the Minute Man, didn't find it. I just pick up what I need at Commercial Row at Friendship.
The bench shooters at Friendship are always looking for new blood.
The bench gun we had in the NMLRA booth at the NRA convention in Indy was quite a conversation piece.

Speaking of underhammers, just Tuesday, I traded a guy a nice little Numrich Arms Hopkin & Allen underhammer .32 with a 20 inch barrel. My old Math teacher had one with a longer barrel in .45 he brought into class 40 years ago and I've wanted one ever since. I haven't fired it yet, but hopefully this weekend. I think the little .32 will be fun to shoot. I'll let the forum know how it goes.

Recently purchased a .54 cal round ball gun. Weight 40 lbs. Built by H. lloyd Resor in 1981. It is without sights or false muzzle latch so think it was just never completed. Believe it is unfired. Stocked for a left handed shooter. Sealed ignition, underhammer. Looking forward to finishing it off for a fun shooter. May one day enter a NMLRA territorial match with it. Here's smoke in your eye! Well, there are underhammers and then there are UNDERHAMMERS; you have the latter.

Thx hansi!

Charlie, the big 69 I have was originally a resor. Story was the big gun was built and then stolen, the tooling was not stolen. The tooling was taken to breisen to use to build this one. So the loader, and other parts are resor and rifle is a breisen
