Seems to be the norm, maybe file the leading edge to get rid of the sharp edge, using Bullplate lube will help to stop galling.

Not that big of a deal but definitely worth fixing. Sand and polish the bottom and edges of the sprue plate till smooth and then dress the top of the blocks. I second the use of Bullplate.

Happens to many but should not. The first thing I do when receiving a new mold is to smooth out the sprue plate and check for and remove any burrs. Lube is a must to prevent galling. I use synthetic 2-cycle oil for this.

+1 on the 2-cycle oil, I keep a little bit in cap with a q-tip so I can add some to the sprue plate during casting if needed. I just open the plate, rub some on and wipe with a cleaning patch to make sure its all over the plate.

Look and find out exactly what is cutting the groove (s), find it and remove it.
Keep the underside of the plate clean and smooth.
Don't have excessive amounts of pressure on the sprue plate.
KEEP IT LUBED WITH BULLPLATE OR A GOOD QUALITY 2 CYCLE OIL ( VERY LIGHTLY )

Look at this, it may help you ? - - -
