Hello Lads,
anyone here know what the current production Lyman molds in 457125 and the 457 Postell are like quality wise, and what drop from mold size bullets using 1-20 or similar alloy? I need .459 size bullets for my Sharps and my lever guns.

I want to replace two damaged molds, but am wary of what lyman is like these days in their mold line, as most of my Lymans are about 20 years old.

Thanks,

Buckshot

Donald,

The only way to know what size a particular mould, with your alloys and your casting techniques will drop at is to try them. End of story. Anything else is just guess work.

That said, my Postell and my 458125s all drop at .459 or better. :)

Welcome to the forum.

Tru Cat true.
I would just rather avoid dropping $180.00 on two new molds that drop at .457 and are out of round. Hence my original question of anyones luck with current production Lyman stuff.

Thanks,

You can trust that they will be out of round. Almost all moulds drop 'em out of round. There are exceptions of course, but that's what they are, exceptions. But when you size them they round right up.
