Hello all,
I "discovered" these in a recycling dumpster in my town the other day. I have given them a little soaking in kroil and this is what I got:
First is an Ideal 356402 and voila!, when split apart looky, looky! It appears as if it was "customized". I use that term very loosely. It seems to have another bullet shaped bored into it and a chunk out of the original bullet too.
Second is also an Ideal, but this one is 308329. Looks alright, but as i look more closely - I notice that one side has lube grooves and and the other side doesn't seem to have anything (other than a slight indent where a gas check would go. Any thoughts? I have had a tough time finding much info on the 308329 mould. Most seem to be .311 diameter. I have found pics or scans of the 356402 and what I have seen doesn't really look exactly like what this mould does. Did casters really customize moulds?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Looks like somebody was trying to make paper patch molds and gave up.

Look's like he was giving a good try to modify them.

It's crazy what people throw away at times. My son and I went to visit my mom at the complex where she lived. When we go, we always try to do little things for her, like take the trash out, etc. Well, this time my son took the trash out, and came back with a big grin. He had picked up a nice ax, and a 4" vise someone had thrown away. there was other stuff in there, but I picked up a nice plastic milk crate. He said to me, now I know why you're always looking in trash containers.

That tapered cavity may be for slugs to drive thru a bore????
