I recently picked up a 1930's vintage Colt Officers Model in 38 special - It's pretty well used but should still be a great classic shooter. It needs some grips - can anyone recommend a good place to look for a replacement??? I would imagine someone is making some repros as I believe this is the same grip as the Official Police as well as the Army special and Navy special and maybe a few others.... It came with checkerd wood but those black hard plastic would suit me fine.

thanks for any help

You could try Numrich Gun Parts http://www.gunpartscorp.com/ they may have something that would work.

103733Yes, same grips (stocks in Colt lingo) as official police. Pre-war had a nickel stock screw. Post war after about 1955 was checkered wood also but with a blued stock screw of different size and the nickel emblem changed. Any stock that fits a python such a pachmayr or Hogue will also fit. I just looked and I have a set of pre-war stocks. The left stock is in excellent shape but the right stock was worn and someone appeared to recut the checkering with a pocket knife. $30 shipped if interested. A member of the Colt forum restores stocks.

Might try Simpson's Ltd. http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php

Liberty Tree Collectors too. Either place, or any other place, I'd call on the phone and ask. Don't assume all inventory will be on their websites.

Smkummer is right, any python grip will fit. I have a beater one I bought for 250 a few years ago and love it. I put some Pachymers off my python on it. I have tried to shoot it with the factory grips and the Pachymers are A LOT better.

smkummer - thanks - My grips look a bit like yours, my left is passable but my right hand is terrible - your offer is good but I will pass for the moment. I did find some Python pachmyers in my grip box and they are on the gun now. I am going to shoot it a bit and see what it warrants before deciding on where to go on the grips.

I would still be interested in other options please.

I just got an Officer's model. I am trying to recut the checkering. Wood really sucks, and I'm learning new tricks. I looked on Gunbroker just now under I frame, and there's 2 pages of grips. Stocks I put against my shoulder.
