Recently my wife has taken up painting. My 6 year old grand daughter was quite taken with the whole affair and wanted to try it herself. So with grandma's guidance a masterpiece was born. My grand daughter was excited for me to see her painting but didn't want to move it while it was still wet. Rather than ask me to come upstairs, she made a drawing of her painting to bring down to the basement to show me.

How can you not be touched by such a beautiful young artist?

I'll tell ya'. There is something very special about grandkids. I like to spoil them rotten and then send them home.

This is my one and only. She is my guardian angel. When she was about 2 months old we had to take her to Denver Children's Hospital for surgery. Two months later she was watching over me when I had 7 by-passes. I call her my tiny tornado for 2 reasons. When she was born we were under a tornado warning and actually had one touch down outside of town while her mom was in labor. She's always on the move and her passing through an area looks like the aftermath of a tornado. I love her more than my own kids . I was always working trying to make ends meet while my kids were growing up and didn't spend as much time with them as I should. I'm trying to make up for it with this one.

If ever I should be so lucky. My kids are all young now, but I know the wife and I are looking forward to spoiling them when/should they ever get here.

Grand kids are so special. So were the children, but I think with a little age we gain perspective and appreciate the grand kids in a whole new way.

This thread reminded me of an old saying:

"Grandchildren are the reward we get for not killing our own kids."

I always liked the saying " If I'd have known how much fun grandkids are, I'd have had them first!"

I was 45 when my daughter was born and 47 when my son was. Glad I waited, it's kinda like I skipped having kids and went straight for the grandkids! And then I became a stay at home dad, so even more like grandkids, except I can't send them home!
