Ok guys. i separated my soww from my batch of coww.my question is, i have some of the soww that are painted gray. they cut easily with nippers so can i assume they are lead? This is just about an 8lb batch I'm smelting with 12lbs of lead pipe. just don't want to contaminate my mix. thx guys

Try a bit of hydrochloric acid on the grey ones (scrape some paint off first), no bubbles means you are good to go.

Most likely they are lead I have yet to find zink or steel soww that I can cut

SOWW is dead soft. If they cut easily with the nippers, toss it in there. I have been mixing some of my SOWW 50/50 with my COWW and adding 2% tin to the mix to use for hunting boolits.

BNE has a thread you ought to check out: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?229666-Stick-On-WW-XrF-Data He has XRF data as well as pix of the various SOWW's he tested. Way better than nippers for info on SOWW's. There's even one type that analyzes about the same as COWW's.
