I'll bet it has been asked a 1000 times BUT
Is it safe to shoot castboolits in a Magna-port barrel?
I.E. 44 mag?
What to look out for other than the obvious?
I really can't see why not but I thought I heard once it wasn't a good idea.

Absolutely worst case scenario is you block the porting that wasn't there before. If that happens you have other issues.

They work just fine. I have a freedom arms 454 that is mag-na-ported and no issues. The ports get dirty but they arlways do.

My Dad has sent thousands of 41Mag cast through his Blackhawk with a mag-na-port Noise Enhancing Device cut into the barrel....no harm /no foul that Hoppe's and regular maintenance will not remove.

Glad this was posted as I have an 8mm JDJ Contender barrel that is Magna ported and I would like to start shooting castboolits through it.

It has some hog kills to it's credit with J word bullets, and it should do very good with cast.

I have a ported barrel on my 357 mag and have had no issues with cast boolits. I have fired over 2000 rounds of cast through it.

I use a little car wax on the front sight blade and barrel on my Freedom Arms .454, and it really makes the gun easier to clean!!
Ken at Magnaport recommends Chapstick!!

as long as your wearing safety glasses ported barrels are just fine with either cast or jacketed bullets. ported barrels do always have the potential to strip small slivers of bullets off, and send them flying from the ports at high velocity.

No problems with magnaport & lead boolets, just the sides of the front sight base getting dirty, have 6 guns done and 10s of k rounds fired , only my 22 lr target pistol builds up some lead at the front of the ports after firing a few K through the barrel without trying to remove the lead build up just bore snakeing it after each weekly BE shooting session.

Been shooting a Mag n port M-57 .41 mag with hot lead loads for 25+ years. No problems, except for the noise.

Base of the front sight on my ported Ruger SRH 454 was getting covered with bits of lead when using plain base boolits. Using a gascheck boolit solved that problem.

I get a bit of lead buildup on the outside of the barrel next to the ports on a ported
.44 Mag (not magna port) and it takes a hard wood scraper to knock it off, but no big
deal, really.
