Hi
Interested in adding a boolit feeder to a dillon 650.
Looked at Hornady feeder but it says it is for jacketed bullets only.
What is different about lead boolits that the feeder would not work for those.
I load 38spl and 45LC for cowboy so predominately lead only.

JMorris should come along here fairly soon, but the aftermarket units from the small outfits tend to be better designed, better materials and work well with cast boolits. They're not cheap, but worth the increase in production if you need to get back some time in your life from reloading. If J doesn't pipe up, search out his nickname, find his posts and look at his boolit feeders in action.

BTW, this is just an IMHO only thing, but the price difference between the sorta junky made of crappy materials big company bullet feeders and the well made of quality materials and works with lead boolits is worth it.

Only one bullet feed drop die, mrbulletfeeder.biz

They make plug in the wall collators too but u could start with drop die then add collator.

Lead bullets don't work because the wax lube drags/hang up and gums up on the spring tube that the bullets slide over from the the feeder to the press.

Some guys have have had limited success tossing the bullets in baby powder or talc, or Mica.

But Moly coat and other types of coating is the only sure fire way to go for lead. I.E., no wax lube!

Good Luck

The GSI is what I use with homade collators.

I don't lube anymore now that I found a coating that works and is easy to apply. However, I used this same setup to do my lubed bullets, same collator for the reloading machine.

I do use the KISS/mr bullet feeder for jword rifle bullets and they work well too, just loose the powder check die.

JMorris,

What coating are you using, what machine are you applying it with and are you baking it when done? Looks like powder coat from what I can tell and I've been looking real hard at that. The copper paint looks real nice and I'm betting doesn't attract unwanted attention at the range.

I tried powder coat but the process I used was too slow and left the bottom uncoated.

Here is a link to that thread and a trial run of copper plating.

The hi-TEK coating is what I use now. I can coat them as fast as my auto sizer can run. Here is the thread I use for that process.
