Lyman 358345 used to fire the groups today.
Bottom ring ( only ) filled with Ben's Red lube, case lightly crimped into the top ring.

Is that a 38 spec GP100 or a 357 using 38 special ammo?

Nice shooting

Ben

It is a a 357 using 38 special ammo?

I did not know that Ruger made GP 100's chambered for 38 Spec. only ?

I thought ALL GP 100's were 357 mags.

They make em in 38 special as well, according to Davidsons anyhow. I never really saw the point of a 38 GP-100.

I've never seen a .38 in it.... but Wikipedia lists a few model numbers in it in a chart about halfway down the page.

I didn't know they made anything else either, til this thread got me to searching. I bought my GP in '85 when they first hit the gun cases and I haven't had a reason to look at another .357 until last summer when I bought a .357 BH for a truck gun.
The GP100 .357's are just awesome!

I'm learning............Seems Ruger did make some GP-100's in 38 Spec.

Yes, there are some 38 Special GP100's , I own one. The GP100 is an outstanding design IMHO and a far better gun than a lot of people will acknowledge.

You are in good company. I love mine too. Perfect geometry on the grip angle for me. With the original factory grips, that is. The Hogues they use now just got to go! While the finish isn't as good as S&W, the trigger is at least 85% as good as S&W and the gun is stout. Plus it seems to shoot just about anything well.

Have one too in .357. It's my favorite pistol now. I have tons of .38 brass, so I load "hot" .38 loads with bullseye and 158 gr TL boolits and it shoots great for cheap cost per round. Never understood buying a .38 pistol when a .357 is about the same price and you can shoot both in it.

Wait.. What.. Where!?!?! You saying a GP100 in 9MM? I think I have heard of the sp-101 in 9MM but not a GP100

Be still my beating heart, I want one

I love my two GP100's - as someone else has said - they will be the last to go - actually, I say I will die still owning them. My son and daughter can fight over who gets the stainless and who gets the blued one. My wife, sadly(or should I say gladly?) never fell in love with them

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered some from Chig's Grips. Great pricing and awesome looking grips. My first set (I'm sure there will be more) was an English Walnut. Can't wait to put them on.

I ignored GP100s for many years thinking 'Ruger = single actions, S&W = double actions'.
I even went to the guns store last year expecting to buy a 686, but comparing a S&W 686 SSR to a GP100, the GP was clearly smoother in the bore and chambers and the Smith had a flawed muzzle crown.
The GP was an easy choice to make.
Now that I've had it over a year I'm still very happy with it. It shoots cast great, and it even shoots plated bullets very well.

I just watched a nearly new KGPF-840 (.38 Special/stainless/fixed sights,4" barrel) sell on another forum for $600.00. I would've happily paid that if I had the cash. Full size .38 Special revolvers are just pure awesomeness. Don't ask me to explain why because I can't, but more than a few on the Ruger forum share this sentiment.

No need to explain. I too have a similar affliction. Sort of like shooting 38 Specials out of a model 27 N-frame?

I wish I was the one that could lay claim to that accomplishment but at least I can aspire to it.

my GP is awesome as well. I especially like the way it disassembles with the trigger group and all.

I shoot blackpowder loads thru mine from time to time and boy are those loads fun. cleanup is a snap and when I pull the trigger group ... everything is very clean and un-gunked ... there is a word for ya.
