Besides working on and building presses I made up some pinch trim dies. These pinch dies trim 22 cal l.r. jackets to length and give you the most square trimmed or cut jacket you can have. The pinched or cut part comes off with ease when you have the die body adjusted correctly. You have to be careful not to make to hard contact with the punch and die body. If you do it will dull the cutting edge of the die body. I am going to offer a 15% discount on the first three sold. You will have to commit by posting a I will take one right here in a reply. Also you could send me a private message and I will post the first three who qualify for the discount. This is a first come first serve offer. Thanks for looking.
Thank You,

Are these dies limited to trimming just one set length or are they adjustable in some way?

Sorry, Yes these dies are fully adjustable and they are made to work in a regular reloading press. I have used them in a Lee Classic Cast and also a RCBS Supreme press.

Tim, those dies look really good. No surprise there. I don't really have a need to trim 22lr brass since I only make 50 to 60 grain bullets, but if I made lighter bullets, I would definitely take advantage of this offer.

Pardon my ignorance, but can you give the steps to do a jacket trim? The cone shaped piece that goes in the ram expands the mouth of the brass, but what draws the brass back into the die to be trimmed? Or is there some manual fiddling that has to be done? I'm used to a reloading/swaging operation taking between 1.5 to 3 seconds, per piece per operation. What kind of throughput are we looking at here?

How I set the die up is first put the cone shaped piece in the ram then raise the ram to the top of its stroke. Second screw the die body in the top of the press and screw it down till it just touches the trim punch. Then lower the ram put a jacket on the punch and raise it into the die body . There is a internal adjustable stop that screws into the die body from the top, this is the piece that holds the jacket from going further into the die body. The jacket that is left sticking outside of the die body gets pinched between the punch and the die body, it cuts it and most times it is left on the punch. Then you lower the ram and extract the jacket with the extraction pin and knob usually catching the jacket in your hand. You can set up a auto ejector for doing this also. There is no lube necessary but it doesn't hurt to use a little on the punch. I hope this answers your question on how it works. (U.P. North)

Word of caution on the USE of pinch trim dies............

If you over adjust them, and crash the punch into the die, you will damage one or BOTH parts, and the set could become unusable. The proper way to set them up is to start off with too LITTLE pinch, and just adjust until the brass separates into two pieces, and no more than that. That way, the die will last a long time. If you over adjust, even a bit, the die and punch will suffer.

You have been warned.

This is true for ALL pinch trim die sets.....

Mustang, pm sent to you.
I agree with you Duke but like I said you have to just be careful when setting the die up. I have yet to have anybody run the punch and die in to each other to hard. If you follow my simple instructions on set up you will have no problems.
I am on request of others doing a run on some 30 cal trim dies. The thing about a trim die is you get a square cut to the bearing surface of the jackets.

Figured I would check and see if there are any others interested in a 22 cal pinch trim die. I still have a few left.

Clodhopper are you going to trim your 22wmr brass before you resize them for your 6mm

Randy,
Tim, UP North is making a .243 trim die for me.
I wanted to get uniform length jackets, with the thought that would lead to more uniform ojives.
Some guys just measure and sort to length, I want to make them all the same.
The 17 HMR, I understand from BTSniper's posts will make a nice 75 grain .224 jacket when cut off at about the shoulder.
I want to persue that.
I need to deal with the neck and shoulder on the 17 HMR brass, tried a .22 "M" die with 80% split necks.
Mini chop saw on deck.
Jacket length uniformity may go out the window if I trim 6mm jackets, then reduce them to .22.
So I might need to get a .22 trim die from Tim later.

Here are some 22 cal trim dies ready to be shipped to there new home. I offer two different style punches for the differences in the ram opening between the lee and rcbs presses.
