I had posted on someone else's thread about a shooting rest, so I pulled mine out and took a couple pics:

It is made out of a set of scrapped folding table legs, a piece of scrapped 3/4" plywood, and some conduit straps. There's a cutout to sit in and a hand hole to carry it.

Buddy that shoots with me is left handed. I made the same design but it has a cut out on both sides and a single card table leg on the shooters end.

I need something I can carry 1/4 mile, along with the rest of the stuff.

Round off your corners and save being poked in a bad spot.

Garyshome- are you walking a well worn path? hardpacked or muddy? you could add a couple of casters to the large end, another handhold to the small end, strap all your stuff to the top, and pull it along with you.
I made the rest when I lived in twentynine palms, ca. a lot of flat desert and i needed a place to shoot off, better than my car hood. it is a little much to hump into the woods, now that i live down south. yet it still finds it's way into the woods.......

Nice. I have a similar one with dual cutouts. I like the hand hold cutout. I used a piece of nylon strapping.

packing stuff in sounds more like a job for a shooting bi/tripod and a folding stool or a shooting mat

or you could make the above into a plywood back pack frame maybe add something like an ALICE shelf to one end.

That is exactly what I was thinking too, Artful. an ALICE frame and shelf. The table ain't too heavy and my table height is set for a bucket style seat, so the bucket is another carry all for smaller stuff.

Get one of these at your favorite store and bungee cords to hold the table, your favorite rifles and strap on your ammo can on the bottom.

I have worn out 2 sets of tires so far traveling ???? miles with much heavier loads.

I also went with a single leg in the back by the shooter. It didn`t interfere with the shooter getting nestled into the bags like the double leg did.Robert

This is a bit of different twist for a shooting bench but it is by far the best I've used. It takes seconds to set, It is very light, it is rock sold and I use the same rest that I use off a table. The stand is for a transit. The thread on top is 5/8 x 11. I cut a piece of scrap Teflon, drilled and tapped it and it screws on and off in seconds. This stand is easily used on gravel and I've even used it on my ice covered driveway at camp with zero movement.
