Could someone provide measurements of 3rd gen 5", inside the slide barrel bushing and outside barrel dimensions where it contacts the bushing?

With my 4506-1, I am measuring barrel at .591, while bushing measures .596, leaving .005 clearance, which seems excessive.

With bushing being non-replaceable (except by S&W), and factory barrel costing only around $75 (when available), I am hoping a new barrel will tighten things up.

Barrel, .486" Wide Hood
Mfr Part: 276080000

According to Numrich, the barrel fits the following guns:
4516-1DA, 4526DL, 4506-1, 4536DL, 4546DA, 4556DA, 645, 745, 4506, so any measurements from these owners would also be helpful.

Thanks

How does it shoot now?

Does not shoot as good as I was expecting it too. Might just be me, or hopefully, it might be a simple barrel swap if the gap is indeed excessive.

I just broke out my 4506 and my inside and outside mics. My barrel measures about .58980" to .59070", just a bit oval. The bushing measures about .59400". While there is a bit is slack, there is also the slide stop pin wedging the barrel into the lugs. It sounds like the interface of the slide stop pin and lower barrel lug are a bit loose and could benefit from being refitted.

I have 7 magazines for those guns I'd like to sell, if anyone is interested. Three are in the factory packaging and have never been opened. The opened ones are in like new condition. If interested, send a PM.

Thanks ClemY for taking the time to do those measurements. I think you might have saved me the cost of a barrel.

It seems the accuracy was me all along, not the gun. I failed to use the alloy the 4506-1 liked. Last thing I tried was a fresh batch of soft 10 BHN, and it finally shoots like I expected from the start. A tack driver. This thing would not shoot with 14.6 BHN (or the cheap factory Tula FMJ). I guess this is part of the "each gun may require minor fitting" that applies to boolits as well has hard parts.. The great thing is, my 4513TSW and SR1911 shoot with this soft lead better as well!

Glad you found the sweetspot, Rob. Now you can fill all those magazines full and shoot all week long..........
