I bought this gun last year, NIB. Looks like it dates to the late 70s. Finally did some serious load work with it, BP of course. I used Win cases with the flash hole enlarged. Win large rifle primers, 70 grains GOEX 2f, Lee HB 405 grain bullet out of pure lead sized and lubed at .459 using my home made bullet lube. This load really wants to shoot, 3 shots touching at 100 yards. This is despite an awful 11 lb trigger pull.

Some of those Officers models have a set trigger on them, Have you looked?

Greetings
One of these Officer Models has for years eluded me.. seems I end up with lost patience first.
Three shots touching at 100 yards with any trigger in a 45-70 is fine in my record keeping.
On the left side of the receiver should be 2 through bolts which should permit the lock plate to be removed. May be dirty, rusty or bone dry. And as Highwall wrote.. a set trigger !

None of the HR models had a set trigger. The newer Pedersoli ones do though. That might be an option

Mine is like the middle one but no barrel sight, just the tang sight.

Thats the way they came. Lots of people add original M1879 sights to the H&R Officers models along with the Pedersoli pistol grips.
