Made a trip to my local scrap yard today in search of casting materials. Left with some soft, very oxidized sheet lead, a piece of lead pipe, and some large solid chunks.
I was about to leave with a 5gal bucket of wheel weights when I noticed this one.....

Does anyone recognize this as typeset or spacers? Linotype or monotype? I'm kinda new to the scrounging for lead thing.
Thanks for looking.

Mick :)

Linotype spacers. There is no need for them to use harder allow for those because they carry no imprint load. Often recycled type metal, but good at scrap price anytime.

Thanks so much Outpost! There's some smaller stuff in there too. Like 3/4" X 1/2" X 1/8". It all seems to be the same relative hardness.
I think I got the 93# bucket for 80 cents a pound. I don't mind paying for Linotype at that price. :)

Yep, that's what it is, nice score.

Spacers can vary quite a bit in composition. I have some that are about Lyman #2 in hardness, though they were rules, had a fine line meant to print. At that hardness one jam up and the line would have been smashed.
