Many, many years ago my good friend Bede gave me a second hand Lyman No55 powder measure. Actually, he leant it to me then bought a job lot of loading gear in which was another of the same. As a result, in the post came a piece of wrapping paper and instructions to wrap the powder measure I had then unwrap it and look surprised. It was now mine. He's a funny man.
Anways, the measure I have, from the time I received it, had a broken operating handle that had been epoxied. After about 15 years of service yesterday the long suffering epoxy gave up its tenuous grip on life. Bugger. A quick scan of the Lyman site showed they do not offer the handle as an individual part. OK, I'll make one.
I had a rummage through my bits of "that might be handy one day" stuff and found some hex brass from another project. Chucked it up in the mini lathe, bored it out to I.D. 1.00 inch, soldered a couple of stops on to govern the travel, drilled and tapped 2 x 8x32 screws to fasten to the drum and fitted a operating handle. Viola!

Not the prettiest work but I tell you what. It WORKS just fine. I'm really pleased. It's incredibly satisfying to fix something in this throw away world.

I don't think it will break again! Looks like it will work just fine.

Good Job Jeff,

As long as you like it, it should work just fine.

Now go paint it orange to match the rest of the powder measure!

Very nice work. Its only throw away for those that don't have the skills to do repairs.

Nice save! To think that some people throw out useful metal stock/parts.

I made my wife stand and make swooning noises. She doesn't understand.

While I appreciate factory new looking equipment and tools as much as the next guy; I would rather have one that functions correctly than one that just looks pretty.

Good job, Jeff.

Long ago, I was taught how to repair things. There's not much of that any more. Good job! I have a lot of respect for skill like that!

Nothing at all wrong with that! Appears to be a well thought out repair and I think it looks good. Well done!
