My other thread regarding loads with my Browning 45-70 has raised more questions. I did a search; however my search fu skills may well be lacking.
So, having shot a bit of smallbore competition I am aware of the effects of wind direction on the boolit’s point of impact on the target and can only assume (there’s that word again that gets me into a lot of trouble at times) the same applies to BP boolits; but to what degree? Does anyone have any firsthand experience shooting at mid to long range and can give a ball park figure regarding vertical impact changes from say a 10 mph side wind from 90 degrees, left and right?

An example of the effects on a .22 LR is shown by this:

The best thing you can do is go to Shiloh and get one of the wind charts they sell there. It was developed by a couple of well known long range shooters and is pretty close for most bpcr cartridges.
The other thing that is often over looked, and unpredictable at long range is the wind shear affect on a bullet, especially one that is a bit on the long side for the barrel twist and velocity.

Thanks Don, I figured there would be a wind rosette somewhere but hadn't seen one. Those elevation and wind changes are staggering! I'm pretty good at reading the wind; however this will definitely be a new ball game! I'm sure the hi-power shooter you mentioned felt the same way. It will most definitely be a learning curve involved.

The wind will test your patience at times in this game.
