Cleaning up in my shop (rainy day) I came across some left over 250 grain boolits that I use in my .35 Whelen AI with great success. On my loading bench is several boxes of .357 Mag brass ready to load. Comparing a .300 ACC Black out case to the .357 Mag it appears to have a very similar case capacity. Folks load sub-sonic 250 grain .30 caliber slugs in the .300AAC which gives me the notion to consider loading up some .357 Mag brass with these 250 grain slugs using similar loads. My .357 Handi has a hellacious long chamber/throat so they can be seated out for extra powder room. On a .300AAC website is listed loads using 250 grain J-words with 12.7 Grs. AA1680 or 8.2 Alliant 2400 (both of which I just happen to have) Anyone have any actual experience loading heavy boolits like these in the .357 Handi? My thoughts are that they would make good sub-sonic thumpers if the need arises.

Moderators, feel free to move this to the Reloading area if you think that is more appropriate.

Jupiter7:

Thanks for the thread. I don't know how I missed that but the title may have thrown me off. OK, I will load some up tonight and plan on going to the range tomorrow. My plan is to load two different powders: WC680 and Aliant 2400 and see how they perform at 50 and 100 yards.

Post your results with those powders on the 9 x 33R thread please

Try 4-4.5 gr 231 in 38 spl cases with a 250gr cast bullet. You may be able to use mag brass depending on throat .

I've been using 5.4-5.6 of Am Select in 38 spl cases with Hunters Supply g/c'd 250 grainers loaded to magazine length (1.654" iirc) in a 16.5" 77/357 with CCI 500 primers.... Runs right at 1000fps.

More weight than a subsonic 300blk at the same velocity! :lovebooli

No problems that I can see other than the chance that the longer boolit may not stabilize. I would advise loading up a dozen and trying them first. Hope you get nice round holes.
