Has anyone here ever used a Long Sight Tube and is there any advantage in them?.From all accounts the Sight Tube was used for Muzzle Loading Target Rifles Prior to lensed Scopes.

boy did you get my attention, sure hope their is a lot of good info on your post. was thinking about the very same thing the other day. they sure did use them. i have gone to homemade ghost ring sights on the back sight and it is the same thing with out the tube. it is just a foreward mounted peep sight. really works for me. they are fast and easy to use. i just silver solder a small washer on to a fixed rear sight. hope you get a lot of replys.

wow, double wow. and again wow. i have a 1/23 twist .50. as i posted recently it was cranky in shooting a double wraped paperpatch bullet. so i went to single wrap chase paperpatch and it consistanly drives tacks with a 686 paper patch bullet that i swage. i also in stalled a pedersoli 209 conversion primer nipple on it and now use black horn 209 powder. what kind of breech plug is that? what kind of bullet do you use. its a looker and i suspect a shooter. guys shy away from mine because they think it could break their arm. in truth the recoil is very comfortable. i think its the way i built the stock. love shooting it, tell more about your.

About thirty or forty years ago I used one on a muzzleloader rifle. Seemed to work well. About a half inch brass tube that I soft soldered a Lyman target front sight to the tube, the one with the interchangeable inserts. The rear I used a merit adjustable iris installed in a threaded plug. I made a threaded shank to adjust the elevation that threaded into the tang. I don't really remember too much about shooting it, although I was shooting a lot of matches then. I remember sometimes it was hard to make sure you were on the right target! The toolman.

Johnson 1942,Hello,The Breach Plug fits into a Hook Breach Tang that I made from Angle Steel with a Tang welded to it.The Breach Plug is Held on by the Square Headed Screw just in front of the Trigger Guard. My attempts at engraving do not bear close inspection.I use Military Top Hat Caps for ignition. The Lock is from an old Shotgun,I made the Hammer. The Single Set Trigger is operated by pushing it forwards to cock it.It was necessary to make a Detent or fly for the Lock Tumbler since it always dropped on Half Cock due to the speed of the Set Trigger.I will post a rough sketch of the set Trigger for the next page.

JeffinNZ,A nice set up Regards.

Single Set Trigger of unusual design but effective.
The Roller on the Spring rides over the high point on the Heart shaped cut out on the Trigger blade.

The Barrel is made from1/4" wall 1" Diameter Solid Drawn Tube with an octagonal sleeve fitted at the Breach.I rifled it by using a twisted 1/8th"x 1" flat bar running between two rollers. This had a length of Rod attached with an own made Rifling Head.I made a 7 position indexing piece. This was bolted down on a length of 4x2 Timber.the twisted bar revolved in a frame and was pulled backwards and forwards until it stopped cutting then indexed and repeated many times as I remember it took me about 3 weeks to rifle it then I had to Lead Lapp it.A long drawn out process but I got there eventualy. It passed Proof at the Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House.
