What caliber? .45-70? I load a jacketed 405 with 46.9 gr of 3031, COAL 2.575 and get exceptional accuracy and stunning whoop a@@ performance on these Eastern whitetail. Don't have a 405 mould.

Well you don't give much info except the 405 gr bullet sounds like a 45-70 of which I have shot thousands of rounds of (100 rounds just this weekend). If you use smokeless powder and want a plinking load try 15 gr of Unique. If you want a nice accurate load that will not positively dislocate your shoulder in a Handy Rifle try about 42 gr of IMR 3031 or 45 gr of 4895. If you want to dislocate your shoulder (or are insensitive to recoil) try 54 gr of 4895. I am sure that you don't want to go any hotter than that.

I shoot 3031 powder and two different 405 gr bullets out of 4 different 45-70s. My favorite load is 42.3 grains of IMR 3031.

Check out these 2 10 shots targets at 50yds.

That HandiRifle .44 Magnum/12 Ga Rifled Slug barrel sounds intriguing to me.
