Just bought a new Henry 44 magnum and would like to know the best cast bullet style that will feed and not get hung up! I cast mt own and coat with Hi Tec. I have heard 240 grain swc may not feed smoothly, and i am leaning towards 200 grain round flat point. I would appreciate sharing any expierence you may have!
Thanks!

I am also going to use some trail boss powder for some light loads with cast bullets, and use plated for heavier loads.

Groo here
45 2.1 has designed a bunch of rnfp/hp bullets- 640 type .
I have the 357 and 41's ,they work well.

I use a Lee 240 swc/gc and have had no problems.

Jimbo, Congrats on the Henry! I wouldn't trade mine for anything. I've found the best shape for any lever (or pump) action is a round nose flat point. I had issues feeding 240 grain SWC's in mine when using .44 Magnums, but no such problems with .44 Specials and the semi-wadcutter.
Happy Shootin'!

jimbo1950--The Lee 200g RNFP has fed well in all .44 mag levers I've had, Marlin and Winchester, but I've no experience with a Henry. Nice looking rifles tho! How's the felt re-coil with the steel butt plate?

Just bought it yesterday, and i am stuck with honey do s today but i think tomorrow morning looks good for a range trip! I have 4 different bullet profiles to try out and see which one the Henry likes!
Then i will buy the mold and do some casting, coating and reloading. I shoot full power loads in my
Smith and Wesson 29,and the recoil does not bother me,unless i shoot 100 or more then it will get a little old. I do not think the recoil will be that bad.
I am thinking 200 grain rnfp as others have reccomended for the light plinking molds with Trail boss powder, will be under 1000 fps. Full power it will be winchester 296 and a gas checkes or jacketed bullets.

My neighbor just ordered a Henry original style deluxe engraved in 44/40 to the tune of 3k!! Six months to get it from Bass Pro.

Jimbo,

congrates, I too just picked up my Henry .44 on Friday, havent fired it yet....but here is what I'm loading Saeco #429 drops 239-240 grains sized to .430 seated to 1.580-1.585. It cycles smooth as butter for all 10 rounds through mine. Me and my Dad are going out to try it out after Easter.

Not to hijack..but what about my crimp, I would call it a firm crimp. I'm only pushing 7.0 grains of Green Dot..should be about 1000 fps. I don't really think I need that much crimp but everyone was saying I need it cause of the tubular mag. Because a 9 lb rifle will barely move under recoil with my light target load. thoughts?

It's more about length in the Henry 44 Big Boy. Any bullet with much more than .320" nose length is going to have problems cycling.

I know the NOE 432-265 RF works as does the Lee 430-310RF (seated to the shorter OAL crimp groove).

There are quite a few on the NOE site that would work actually.

410-310 RFN is the ticket great accurate bullet with nice load Unique or Universal for about 1200 FPS from the rifle will give power accuracy and tons of fun.

Well i went to the range yesterday and was able to shoot i round and the empty case jamed and would not cycle and eject! Was using a 230 grain flat round nose. Wenr home and removed lever , put a rod down barrell and it popped out easily. While apart i cleaned it again and will try again today.

The NOE 432-265 (weigh 272 with gc and lube) work perfect in mine. I will be using them for deer hunting this coming fall.
The NOE is the one in my avatar on the right.

Love my Henry .44 BB

I wnt back out amd was able to put about 100 rounds thru the henry and worked great! I used 4 different type bullets and all fed and cycled. The action did stiffen up a little as the barrell got hot.
Recoil is light and not a issue with full power hornady xtp bullets loaded with 296.
Bought some plated 240 grain rnfp to load up as i thing they will feed the best. There is a mold group buy right now for a Mihec mold in 44 magnum made for lever guns that i got in on.
