Today I ran a pot on the Lee C312-155 DC mold using my new Mypin PID controller. SV=720 & PV varied 716 to 724 degrees! Using a Lee 4-20 pot, and this is the 3rd time I have ran this Lee mold.
Alloy was 11# COWW + 1.1# foundry type. Average weight was 155.5, Sd 0.25! Diameter of bands averaged 0.3116" I don't think I got the best data during the auto tune and I will run auto tune again the next time I cast. I was throwing all sprues & a few rejects back into the pot so this seems to be decent process control.
It was nice not to have to chase the Lee pot thermostat thru the run! I also noticed that with the constant alloy temperature I never had to vary my casting rate, got the mold off the hotplate and kept the same pace till the pot was empty!
I did notice that the few rejects I had did not have sharp corners on the boolit base, this makes me wonder if I needed to have SV a bit higher than 720 degrees with the aluminum mold? This is only the 3rd time I have ran an aluminum mold so I am still learning!
