Apart from using a melting pot/furnace, does the coleman stove or turkey fryer work better? If I use either will it render them useless for cooking, i.e. if I use the coleman stove for smelting, will I ever be able to use it as a camp stove again?

I use a single burner Coleman stove that uses reg. gas or white gas. White gas works better and the generators last longer but then I'm in no. In in Amish country and can buy White gas/ Coleman fuel from a gas pump at the local gas station. Cost of a single burner Coleman stove is only $30/$40 at the local Wally World. NO I WOULD NOT USE IT IN THE FUTURE FOR COOKING. Buy two IMO. Probane is cost prohivative

The Coleman stove would be better for regular melt if you making bullets and the turkey frier better for smelting, more heat. But either will work and you can still cook.

If you're going to smelt quantity, you'll be better off with the turkey fryer. Much higher heat output. You can use an 8 quart Dutch oven and get 150 pounds or so working weight. If you are going to dipper cast, you'll be better off with the Coleman. Much better heat control, but you can't really smelt much more than 2 quarts (near enough 50 pounds) on it. My Coleman got pretty clapped out with drips and splashes from dipper casting over the years. I wouldn't use it to cook on.

I will start with pistol ammo. .45, .38 Special, and .357 to begin. I will do rifles eventually. I plan to buy a bottom pour Lee 20# in the future. Initially I will use it to separate the impurities and possible for casting in the beginning, but most likely for removing impurities.

When I move to rifle I will cast for 45-70, .223, and 7.5 x 55 Schmidt Rubin

I use a turkey fryer for all of my melt castings, lead aluminum and others.

It is a good heat source and uses propane, easy to get, while the coleman stove they want you to use their fuel.

Plus I have a gas BBQ and a forge in my smithy that uses propane.

The Coleman stove will run on unleaded gasoline. You don't have to use their fuel.

Coleman products with generators do run on unleaded and generator life is usally shorter---but the extra cost of Coleman fuel doesnt offset the cost of replacing generators more often.

I would use the coleman stove to cook with but know that the 10 second rule for dropped food does not apply. Eat only what stays in the pan and you should be Ok. Gianni

I have been running my Coleman stove for so long on regular unleaded fuel I can't remember how long it's been. Runs fine and is still on the original generator.
