I have 500 rounds of lake city XM855 ammo that I have been going back and forth on what to do with. I keep thinking about pulling the bullets, saving the powder, and either selling or tradeing for somthing I can use.

So my first question is does anybody know what powder is used in this load, and what value do the bullets have.

There isn't a carport commando in your neighborhood who will snap that up for his black rifle?

Nothing remarkable about the powder or the bullets.

If boxed with original LC wrapper having the X (experimental) designator before being officially type classified as M855, original unopened boxes are collectible!

I would sell it as collector ammo, NOT as shooting ammo, for $50 per box if I had it! and then go buy whatever you want to shoot!

Its in a cardboard box with 30 rounds on strippers marked xm855. Im planing on holding on to the brass after more thought. I just wonder what powder it is, so I can put it to use.

If you want to trade the ammo for some SMK 168 gr bullets or .224 69gr SMK, let me know.

Why would you break down perfectly good ammo? Just shoot it as is or trade
or sell. I'll buy it if you have a reasonable price - shoot me a PM.

the XM855 is NOT experimental ammo.

what is it is M855 that did not make the grade. The USG is VERY specific on their ammo specifications and if the sample of the lot of ammo doesn't meet ALL of the requirements, the Military won't take it. Sooo, the manufacturers sell it as XM855. It's good stuff for sure.

the 855 is the penetrator round for the military, the green tip. Not exceptional, not poor.

your ammo will command the most value whole. Breaking it down will be difficult as the bullet is sealed in the case. A collet puller or an impact puller will be VERY VERY slow.

You won't know what the powder is so it's a gamble to use for other stuff.

I personally would recommend selling or trading it for what you want.

500rnds will problaby command $200 easy.

+1 on that, not my cup of tea but there are plenty of folks looking for it.
