Please furnish reasonable loads for 180-220 grain bullets for 30-40 Krag & 303 British for 1898 Krag and No.4 Mk. I and No.4 Mk. I*. I anticipate that loads that are reasonable in these actions will be reasonable in all 303s based upon No.4 actions.

I have no interest in determining how "hot" these actions can loaded. One hundred fifty fps lower velocity will make zero difference upon impact - as far as I am concerned.

I also anticipate that reasonable loads with cast bullets that are gas checked will be reasonable and safe were jacketed bullets substituted.

All you need. 16/2400 and a 311299 in my Krag keeps me in the black 100 thru 300 yards. Slug your bore and size to fit the throat.

Finmike:

Your reply is interesting but not useful. Loads' purpose is medium game hunting, not target shooting or plinking. I have large quantities of H322 and IMR3031 on hand. I will not buy different powder unless neither powder can be used to create an acceptable load.

Wish I had either of those powders for my SMLE but I don't. My best performers are 16 of Longshot behind a 224gr cast and 40 gr of Reloader 22 behind a HDY 150 j-word. I know Reloader 22 is supposed to be for big capacity magnums but I had some and extrapolated down some data from my reloading manual to get there. Bottom line is study several good sources of data and then start loading. Good luck!

I'm trying to avoid extrapolating to create loads if I can. I found a couple of IMR3031 loads for lighter bullets, but H322 is, perhaps, too new of a powder while 30-40 and 303 British are cartridges that must not be reloaded by many.
