I have some fired, but primed 30/30 brass that I bought. I got ready to load some, but it had not been sized, and needed trimmed. I could have sized it easy enough, but my lyman trimmer would not work with primed brass.

Is this a common practice to load without sizing or trimming, maybe if you are going back in the same rifle?

I find .30-30 needs frequent trimming. Some brass can be reloaded without trimming but certainly not all. Be sure to size first before trimming as it grows when sizing.

Hello, starmac..I think you might be suprised if you checked the actual chamber length of your rifle. It seems .30-30 & .38-55 rifles have very long chambers..some as much as .06" longer than longest suggested trim length.

I actually just for the heck of it chambered one in my 94 (just the brass) before I cut it, and it chambered fine. I went ahead and cut it back though, because I use it in several 30/30s and do not want any issues.
