The Lyman book favors pistol powders for the 30-06. I just cast a bunch of 311331 from ww (217 grs.), and am looking for loads using slower powders. I stocked up on surplus 4895 a few years ago and would prefer to use that, or surplus 844.
I have a 760 Remington that slugs at .3084, and a Mauser with a 5 groove bbl, (how the heck do you measure that?). Both are 1/10 twist.
My goal is hunting, preferably around 1900 or so.

Start at 28 gr 4895 and use a 3/4 gr Dacron filler. Work up to 34 gr using the Dacron filler. The rifle will tell you what load of 4895 with that 311331 it likes.

Thanks, Larry.
Dacron... Fabric store?

Never mind, found it in the stickies.
I also have some 860 I bought for the 6.5 Swede. I didn't consider it, as I figured it would be too slow in the 06. Any thoughts on using it for heavy boolits in the 06?

I've not used any 860 so others will have to answer that question? My preference is with the 4895.

I have shot that bullet with WC860 in 7.62x54r, and it left a lot of unburned powder. Other powders worked to well to try a duplex load to get it to burn well.
