Took a gamble buying an old used mold off the 'bay.

A Lyman 314299 for 303 British

I find one of the cavities drops them nice, the other drops them with a swollen base and my regular Hornady 30-cal gas-checks just won't go on, just no way, even with the Lyman gas-check seater, it crushes the boolit badly around the check.

Here's both cavities' boolits side-by-side, can you see the 'bulge' in one of the bases of the boolits ?

The mold, here we can see the completely different tooling on each base. It's so different, I wonder if it came out the factory that way?

Any options to fix this? A 32 cal check maybe?

To use a 32/8mm GC, the shank of the bullet shouldn't be over .304. If it's much over that, you'll need to make that cavity a plain base by reaming it .316. That will leave cast a bullet .3145 - .315, depending on the alloy.

Appears some one attempted to make the one cavity a PB and goobered it up. Concur with frank on the probably remedy.

Thanks guys, since I ordered some 32 checks for my old 32-40 I'll hope that route works neatly , failing that, a PB ream.

Goobered. Love that word.

you could also try.
a thinner aluminum gas check.
flairing the check to fit.
dotting the bad cavity and sorting them out.
getting some plain base gas checks.
cut the cavity to a plain base.

Have you tried flaring the GC more open by placing a ball bearing on the cup side and tapping with a small hammer?Robert

If it were mine, would play with opening / clean up the problem one. PB for slow, GC for go.

All good options. Been looking for an excuse to buy some PB sets from Pat Marlin.
