Tom at Accurate Molds has a great looking SWC 160 gr boolit I'd like to try in my 45ACP. Looks like it would make a fun plinker. Anyone here tried it?

I used the Lee mold 452-160-RF and it worked fine in my 45 auto. But loading info is far and few between. Started with 4 grains of bullseye and ended with 4.9 for reliable cycling. A 200 grain boolit will let you use less powder and only 40 more grains of lead. For example the 160 was a lite shooter with 4.9 and the 200 grain has a healthy kick with 4.6 grains of Bullseye.

I was wondering about accuracy with a light boolit like this. I'd try changing to a lighter spring instead of increasing powder.I'm looking fo a light recoiling accurate load that recoil sensitive shooters can use.

That Lee 160 rnfp is super accurate over 6 grains of unique. I wish they had a 6 cavity.

my 1911's will shoot the 160 rnfp I have but it takes more than 6 grs to do it.
6 grn's unique in the 625 is a sweetie to shoot.

4.8 grs of clay's in the 45 colt is like a 22 almost, but it's accurate enough in my lever guns that I keep some in my pocket for head shooting grouse during deer season.

I shot 155SWCs from 45 ACP/AR and they can be very accurate, as in ragged hole at 50' from a Colt Officer's ACP or a S&W 625.

Would that be the boolit from the mold that Lee use to make?

No this is the Lee boolit.

FYI

Some 45 ACP semi auto handguns will not feed the shorter stubby bullets. Depends on the angle of the feed ramp and the throating of the chamber mouth.

Yes, that's the boolit I had in mind. It has a longer nose than the one shown in Accurates catalog, giving it a longer OAL that may help in more reliable feeding.

Too bad you missed the GB here for a 6 cavity for that bullet. I bought one and am still thinking of making it a PB mould, just haven't done it yet. Not a real fan of bevel bases, don't see the need. And that bullet has a very small base as it is.

I have a 160 grain .45 mold by Lee. It LOOKS like an ice cream cone. A small cone on a wadcutter base. I've used it for 25 yard pistol league and ground hogs in /around buildings. It was hard to find data for it. I guestimated a load from other weights and so far have been lucky! It ds NOT recoil very much and is accurate enough at close range. It about turns a critter inside out though!

My concern was the very short bearing length may not be enough and cause accuracy problems. Looks like that's not the case from what I'm seeing. Sure would like to try a few before comitting the money for another mold. I'd be happy to pay cost and shipping for 50 or more as cast samples.
