Anyone have a favorite load? I am assuming that because of the long neck, the 222 is cast friendly or more so than other 22 caliber center fires. I'll be using the Bator or the 225438. What say you? I've dabbled in cast 22 loads before but have only recently had success with them. Maybe it was a combination of patience and powder selection but now, I'm well supplied on both. Does it like pistol primers too? Fast or medium powder?

I shoot a Rem.788 chambered in 222. I use the Lyman 225415 in a hollow point cast from linotype. I use Win 748 powder to push this boolit to 2500 fps. This load will shoot around 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yard very consistently most days. It is very deadly on ground hogs and armadillos.
Here is a photo of the rifle and a unlucky groundhog.

I like reloder 7 for standard loads
and
Red dot for lite loads.

that'd be for 50 to 60 gr boolits in a 12 or 14 twist

I preferred the Loverin designed 225462 in the several .222s I owned because it fits the 222s' neck perfectly. All had 14" twists and gave excellent accuracy upwards of 2600 fps.

This is going to be for a Contender barrel. Their stuff is 12" twists but what I was really looking for is a good powder bullet combination with grain weights, not just a name.

Nice lens caps. Where did you get those?

Go to CASTPICS at the bottom of this page, load data look-up. There are quite a few .222 loads listed, primarily for the RCBS 22-055. I shoot this same boolit in the 223 Contender with great accuracy. I have used Titegroup, Red Dot, Unique, 2400, 4759, & 5744 powders with good results with every one of them.

I have a Savage 110 with a McGowen 1-14 twist barrel. I shoot the 225415 with 21 grs of 4064 and get MOA most of the time at 100 yards. The worst it will do is 1 1/2.Estimate 2500+ fps. I tried every powder I had, shotgun and pistol, 4895, 4198 etc. Was about to give up when I started on 4064 which is my go to powder in my 22-250 with J-words. From the beginning it shot better than all the others and I have been very happy with it since. Over the winter I got a 225462 and an looking forward to trying some of them this spring.

Good Luck....It can be done....Floyd

Which 225415 boolit are you guys using? The older heavy-weight or the newer light-weight? I have both molds.

11 grs of 2400 does right well as an easy to make load. [the wife likes making this one]
you might wanna start with about 17 grs of imr-4895 and work with that if it's available in your area.
