Is it worth trying in a rifle that can crack 3,000 fps and 60,000 psi? Anyone done it?

There's nothing mystical about the 7Mag... in fact the SAAMI neck, throat and leade look just like a 7-08 so it should (assuming you've got a SAAMI chamber) handle any boolit the 7-08 shoots well.

If you want to keep the projectiles going 3,000 FPS, you may have to stick with jacketed to handle the stresses but if you want to just make the gun cheaper and more fun to shoot while still useable on game at moderate ranges, the 7mm mag will put a smile on your face if you can accept 1900-2200 FPS. I had all but quit using my 338 WM due to cost until I picked up that Lee 338 mold. Now I can afford use it all the time. You may find the same.

Yes, indeed...be sure to load the bullet long so they touche the leade...I have done well with the Lee 130R and the RCBS 168 SP-GC...this spring I am going to test RCBS 145 SIL-GCs...I load single shot and employ a TC on mine... On a good day I can routinely hit a 3.5" plate at 250 yards...stock Rem 700...I also use homemade aluminum GCs.
