I need a bigger pot. What does everyone think of this one? It has a thick steel bottom (1/4 to 3/8").

Looks good to me. But, I can't believe that price. Makes me suspicious.

I don't like the glass lid. Go for a used SS stockpot at a thrift store for even less.

Be very cautious of the thin walls where the handles are riveted on. The pot will hold lots more lead weight, than the handle connection will withstand.
Of course none of us would plan to handle a full pot, but that's why we call them accidents.

That will NOT hold lead at the rated capacity!!!!! Weight too much. Those thin walls and the flimzy handles will not work for you. It is made to hold soup, not lead! You could easily end up with a couple shoes full of liquid lead!

Keep looking for a cast iron or heavy steel pot.

they also will rust through that is not true stainless and when you put that much heat on it it will break down fast. been there

I bought A stainless steel stock pot set at harbor freight....talk about thin walls and a TOUGH little pot.

I usually melt 100-150 Lb batches so far over 10 times.

101130101131Picked this up at Goodwill for $6.99. Heavy bottom heavy handles probably will hold 30-40 lbs.tim101132

Zuke, that's a pressure cooker, and looks to be a Preban one at that (lol)

I use a 3-gallon SS stockpot from the scrap pile at the junkyard. It was a Reverewear and it's a shame to ruin it but there you go.

I decided to spend the $ and get what I really wanted. Five quart, cast iron with a lid. It should handle 60+ lbs by my estimate.

Much better. The first pot was too deep. I think It would have been tricky, dipping a ladle in there.

I don't know how much lead my pot hold's, but I usually fill it to the rivet's before I statr to pour ingot's. I like big batch's for consistancy.
