I read somewhere here on Herco and its use in WARM 9mm loads I cannot find it I believe it was 6.0 grains was max for herco in 9mm with a 124-125 JHP ala super-vel
I am looking for that info and wonder if a 125 gr cast HP from a Miha mold would work starting low and working up for varmints 1100 1200 fps is my goal. and I have 8 pounds of herco that is used for other stuff too.

I can't help with the Herco load, but I use 7 gr. of HS-6 behind a 120gr. 356402 for around 1100 fps.

Speer published a load of 7.0 grains of Herco with their 125-grain RNSP bullet.

It developed 1330 fps from a 4" M39 S&W.

In my own Browning HP, the same load ran slightly faster (barrel was about 5/8" longer).

Actually I don't recall the starting load at this late date.

I still have that manual (the one with the stagecoach gunfight scene on the cover), but it's many miles from here right now.

Mayhap someone else has it, and could look up the loads for us?

I have an alliant manual that shows loads for 9mm using herco. It lists a 125 lead max load at 6.2 grains with a velocity of 1165. No idea of barrel length or coal.
It lists the 125 fmj load as max of 6.5grains velocity 1180

Here is a link to download the manual. It is the 2001 manual.

I use 6.0 grains of herco on my 125 grain cast boolits.
BruceB , how hard did you have to pack the powder to get 7 grains of herco in a 9mm case ? I know it is in some of my load tables but 6 grains just about fills the case.

No packing was required, but the charge filled the case level with the mouth.

Seating the (SPEER) bullet obviously compressed the charge to an extreme degree. As mentioned, it required at tool of some sort to DIG the powder out of the case if a bullet was pulled.... a small screwdriver was what I used.

Even so, the pressures didn't seem all that bad, and the ejection from my Browning was also about normal.... but the chronograph still indicated about 1270 fps. Not bad for a 125-grain jacketed bullet.

That would be Speer #8 Bruce.

9mm 125 Speer soft point
Herco 5.2-7.0, 1000-1251 fps

Hmmm .... I reckon my "flawless" memory has done it to me again!

I would have SWORN that the quoted speed was 1330 fps. Sorry 'bout that, group. It's still an impressive performance from such a small case, but it is NOT "1330"!

Seven grains is definitely a full case, though.

Thanks for looking it up for us.
