I have a CVA accura and Optima pistol..I used a Winchester shotshell primer and seemed to have no problems in each weapon...I went out and decided to buy a pack of Remington cleen bore for muzzleloaders and suffered serious blo back and my guns have never been so dirty..what do you think are the best to use..???

I use W209 for everything. several muzzys, shotgun reloads, wherever they fit. BH 209 powder, se7en, pyro, many brands of real black, never had an issue

For at least the last 10 years all I`ll use in my Remington 700 ML is Win. 209 since I converted it from caps. I have tried the "for MZ`s" only type 209 primers and seemed to get not the results that were promised.Robert

Curious as to the powder used? (Granular or pellet)
As commented. You had no problems using Winchester 209s._ Best bet stick with what you know works.
As far as which primer brand is the best. I actually don't know. I'm a traditional rifle shooter. But. Your situation. You already know Remington's aren't preferred. So that a plus.

the 209 primers for muzzle loaders are no good, not enough power, cost way too much. use regular shotgun primers as they are hotter. the brass ones dont fit as good in my sons inline as the aluminum ones. all the real shot gun primers fit in my guns and work great and clean with 209 powder. i may take a drill bit that is only a couple of thousands bigger than the hole in his breech plug and ream it out so all of them fit for him.

I use CCI 209's in my encore 50. also use em in my renegade with the converter nipple. never had any problems with them at all ... have not used the ML 209's so cant comment on em.

Use a set of calipers to check the length of the primers. I think you'll see that the Winchester 209 primer is longer than the Remington 209 primer by about 0.006" which is enough to make a difference between a gas tight seal and a path for blowback including an eventual scorch mark on the scope if you have one mounted above the breechplug gap.
