back last month I posted that I had "always" herd that you could start at 50% powder capacity with cast and j werd data or something like that . I was part right and part wrong.

here is the thread

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?232269-Powder-Question

Seems Hodgdon has a 60% rule where WITH 4895 ONLY you take the starting load data of a j werd and use it for CB's .. Just google Hodgdon 60% rule

Example , if I have a starting load of 75 grains 4895 for a 500 grain j werd , I multiply 75 times 60% to get a starting load of 45 grains 4895 for a 500 CB

here is the page from hodgdon

I agree with Grey Wolfs comment on the other thread. Use the low start load for "J" loads if unsure of where to start.

What cartridge are you looking to use a low load in that uses a 500 gr. boolet?Robert

Grey Wolf's comment is correct as well , there is a bit of lee way with the rifle powders cause the CB isn't producing near the pressure of the j werds

BTW , like yer handle , miss my Taylor , had the fifth or sixth one ever created , awesome round

Thank you sir for the comment concerning my nickname, you are truly a Southern Gentleman. The more I use my Taylor the more I truly think the arms companies missed the boat on not making models with this fine cartridge.Robert

Hve you ever looked at the LEE load manual's?
The second edition has a great formula to figure out a starting/reduced load for most loaded ammo
