Anyone here shooting this caliber—cast or jacketed?...

T/C Contender 23" Carbine...

I have been working with it using jacketed bullets almost exclusively, but I am looking for someone who might have challenged this cartridge with cast…

I have shot the 280642 (150 grains) and the 270-130-FN (~138 grains) with good success, BUT only out to 50 yards. The P.O.I. at 50 yards for these boolits is 4-5 inches low as compared to the Sierra 90 HP. I really don’t want to adjust the ‘scope back and forth between bullets and boolits. The reason can be seen with the 2 pics I posted. The bullet shot at the groundhog silhouette was the 90 HP with 30.0 grains of H-322—the distance was 250 yards. That is 3 hits in the black 2.5-inch circle…
(By the way, the Hornady 110 V-Max produces similar accuracy)

Regardless, anyone have any incite on the 6.8mm and cast? There is a 6.8mm website, but it is for the most part, a semi-weapon site…

I know this is a cast boolit forum and I don’t mean to interrupt that format. So if one feels a bit uncomfortable posting to this thread, I have a PM that I look at all of the time…

This is the most impressive cartridge I have shot in many many years—maybe in all time…

Thanks all...BCB

The only thing I can add is that is a wonderful cartridge. I have it in semi auto and only shot factory. Hopefully someone can help out more than me.

I have had good success with the 27-130-FN using 22 grains of reloader 10x. COAL of 2.152 with a light crimp. This works well in my PSA AR and my ruger hawkeye compact. The reason I load it so short is so that it feeds well in both guns. I use the GC and lube with RCBS rifle lube sized to .278 with lubrisizer. This round performs well for me. I use hornady brass. Im not sure what the velocity is, I wrote it down somewhere but I am way too unorganized right now since Im moving. Use at your own risk....

I have a 120 gr group buy going on right now, it may help bring the point of impacts closer together

I'd like to have a wildcat 22-6.8spc for a bolt action rifle. Basicly a 22-250 with way better case life.

I load for this cartridge in an AR. I have an old ideal 134gr round nose mold that feeds perfectly and shoots well with 18gr H4895.

I don't shoot cast in either of my 6.8's mainly because I bought 1000 Barnes 85gr MPG bullets on sale and they shoot well.

I use my 6.8's for everything....p-dogs, coyotes, deer, antelope.....very tempted to use one of them elk hunting

Its a great little round.
