I received the latest issue of Guns and Ammo in the mail today and they had an article on the new revolver Taurus has come out with. It is "ground breaking and takes form and function to an entirely unprecedented level". It is a .38 Special snubbie called "The View" because the sideplate is made of Lexan. This is so you can see the "intricate inner workings" as they function, or not. Sure to fill a niche in the firearms industry.

Follow the link to see this jewel. Keep your Eye Bleach nearby!

Now that is a solution to a problem that didn’t exist (unless like Love Life stated) it’s to monitor parts breakage.

You guys think like me. If I built guns and the guts look like Taurus, I sure wouldn't put a window on the side for all the world to see.

OMG . . . quick! Run! Buy a dozen of them as potential future highly collectible handguns . . . hoard them and leave them "un-turned" so your g-grandchildren can sell them and buy a house someday . . .

I guess that everybody has things that appeal to them but what is so great about this one certainly has me confused . . . the toy guns I had as a child 50 + years ago are built more durable than this . . . but then I'm prejudiced . . . I like Smiths, Colts, Rugers, Ubertis and Piettas . . . and will never own a Taurus.

Thanks. That leaves a better choice for those of us who like them.

No thank you I'll pass. Good guns require no gimmicks. I would rather have an old beat up Victory 38 than a new gimmick gun.

You used to be able to buy clear lexan side plates for S&W revolvers. I have a few of them around here somewhere.

I'm certainly glad that I own a few nice revolvers, like my 6" 686, my Ruger GP-100 6" with high vis front sight and my Colt, 6" Officers Model Match.

If this is what it has got down to, well- - - count me out.

I think those were sold as armorers tools, and weren't intended to be used for actual firing. I'm sure you could, but I don't thing S&W wanted you to.

Ruger makes one like that, if you can see thru solid steel. They call it the "Superman".

Wouldn't it be nice instead of all this gimmicky **** they put out.
Why not just let me order the gun I want in the caliber I want?
Like say a Rossi Lever gun in 327 magnum?

The real question is:

How long until Smith copies it?

I understand it's the lightest weight .38 compact currently on the market, must be a bear to hold onto with +P.
After my first and only Taurus, a 1911 railed model, I'll never own Taurus again; no matter what the price/features I have shot my dad's Ruger LCR .357 and it's not fun with full house .357 ammo and the muzzle flash is downright scary.

It's not rated for +P. In fact Taurus recommends that for practice that the owner uses plastic or wax bullets to extend the lifespan of the plastic sideplate. :kidding:

I have a S&W Bodyguard 38 and it is only about 17oz loaded. It is not the funnest thing to hang onto with +p's.

I would be flat out amazed if S&W would think it to be a good idea. Sure, a lot of the Performance Center offerings are "aesthetically challenged", but they are no match for this gem.

So showed it to the wife...
She thought it was a squirt gun.
She then asked what will happen to the plastic when some solvent or oil gets on it.

I wonder if it gets brittle with age? You know, like plastic? If you leave it in a hot car, does it warp like a CD case? We need a member to buy one and report back. C'mon, someones gotta take one for the team..

I was just thinking, I have some lexan water bottles, scuffed and all. I think bedbugbilly may be right though, if this doesn't sell well it'd probably be worth money in the future. As I've heard over and over, "If you get a good taurus...congrats, if not don't be surprised". After a lil M94 22 revolver, which thank goodness I no longer have. It was a good shooter but the 22lb da and 12# sa pull was just ridiculous and as I lightened it up I stopped having reliable ignition and it wasn't worth tearing down and rebuilding.

My brother tried 4 times with 4 different guns, and could never get any appreciable weight off the trigger pull while maintaining reliability. It's a pretty common problem.

Ha! While that is their trademark, I think they only do it in special cases these days. This *** is nowhere near special enough.

Not to say that you guys sound like a bunch of luddites but you do. I remember talk like this about the Glock while Col Cooper was talking about the great future he forsaw for the Bren Ten. Of course the Glock has a lot of plastic on it as do lots of guns today. Lexan or polycarbonate ain't exactly chopped liver. I can see myself enjoying sitting and watching the guts as I dry fired this jewel. I hope I can get one in 32 S&WL with a 3 or 4 inch barrel. Things like this are why we aren't shooting match locks or arrows or throwing rocks. The Judge appeals to a lot of people and has encouraged the developement of some serious 410 defense ammo. Lighten up a little.

I really like the idea of a very small snub nose revolver although not this one. The snub .38 doesn't compete so well as far as size to capacity/power nowadays, it's legions of fans (myself included) notwithstanding. I would love to have a sub-j frame size double action revolver with six .32's on board. The .32 Auto cartridge is semi-rimmed and will work just fine in revolvers with proper headspace.

If it does work and last awhile then it might just make a good pocket revolver. I do carry a Smith 442 Airweight Pro in my pocket. I never did have any issues with my two Taurus pistols (431 .44 Spl and a 92 auto, course they didn't design that one). Concur I would like to see it as a 6 shot .32 Long/H&R.

Although I think the clear side panel is a mistake, I'm very glad to see the "j frame" .38 special revolver reduced to the minimum possible size and weight. I'm also for an entirely new 5-shot revolver in .32 ACP sized in between the j frame and the NAA mini. I'd rather Ruger or Smith did it, but it's much more likely to come from Taurus, so, okay. LBS
