Hi, all-
I've just gotten back into black powder after about a 40 year layoff. I used to shoot a lot in the early '70's, was on a Navy pistol team and shot competitively, however had to sell all my guns when I got transferred to Bermuda. Couldn't take 'em, didn't have any one to store them with.
Getting ready to retire now- moving from Florida to Maine... and building up a collection before I retire to play with!
When I started- in the early '70's, the internet didn't exist... so there were no forums. SO much easier to learn now!
I've got a FWB Underhammer target pistol, a Euroarme Rogers & Spencer .44 revolver, a Thompson Center Patriot .45, and just today bought a Navy Arms Deluxe 1858 Remington target revolver. The latter 3 guns I purchased new-in-the-box, even though all have been out of production for quite a few years now. Also putting together a T/C Hawken out of parts & pieces- with a Green Mountain replacement .50 cal barrel and a L&R percussion lock.
Having fun!! Can't wait to shoot them all.
Looks like a great forum here, time to start browsing.

Sounds like you're going to have plenty of toys to help you get back into the game! :D

if you new barrel is a .50 1/28 twist you might want to read about paperpatching it, idaho ron has a lot on that.

No, mine's a 1-70... for balls. Paperpatching is something I'm not familiar with, though- I'll have to study up on it. Thanks.
Beerd- yeah- LOTS of stuff there!!

Ah yes. So your a traditional shooter. Well that's good. You do know there's a short supply of us traditional shooters. And since were in short supply were always happy to include one more too our rank & file.
BTW: congratulation's on your decision to grab that Retirement Brass Ring.

Thanks, OM-
Yeah, no modern B/P **** fer' me!! Though would a T/C Patriot or a FWB underhammer count? They're both modern interpretations of old guns... but that's as modern as I hope to get.
So much to read... so little time. Especially when I'm trying to empty out an accumulation of nearly 35 years! What stinks, is Jacksonville is a lousy town for garage sales... so a lot of good stuff is just getting thrown out because it's not worth it to try to garage sale it. Just not worth it.

When I was shooting/into B/P in the early '70's was when the Hopkins & Allen underhammers were being made... kind of thought them odd. Got back into B/P this year, and of course, they're gone- and in their place- some very expensive ones. There is currently a Pedersoli available for about $650, an earlier version... new from the guy I got several guns from in an estate sale. The ones made in Europe are very expensive- and hard to come by. I was lucky to find this pistol here in the US at an affordable price. European dealers/makers don't want to even ship here.
I feel very fortunate to have gotten this.
Too bad there's not an underhammer forum.

Do ya know that lots of us make our own BP now?

I've kind of been seeing bits and pieces about it... including forums that won't discuss it!

Funny, I've found the same thing with many US dealers/makers - they won't ship to Australia.

Dikman-
Yeah, I know... I used to be into astronomy, and had a good friend via a forum in Australia- and on a couple of occasions, he ordered things here in the US- had them shipped to me- and then I consolidated the parts/pieces into one shipment to him... was cheaper to do that way. It's tough for us commoners to do business with other countries, unfortunately. $350-400 was a ridiculous price to pay for shipping from Europe for something like my underhammer pistol. That's why when I found a dealer here in the US that had the FWB, I jumped on it.

How much did they charge you for it? They are around 1000 euro from the manufacturer(usually a bit less here in Czech republic since they were purchased by the dealers before the euro spiked up).

Delivered to me, it was $1315. Considering what it costs in Europe- then trying to get one shipped- I felt like I paid a somewhat fair price- as opposed to just never being able to own one. I purchased mine from Air Rifle Headquarters, here in Elkton, MD in the USA.
