Here's some of what I did yesterday. I'm blown over with the accuracy of this rifle even with buckhorn sights. I about doodied my pants when I saw the first 100 yd try, target # 7. Can't wait to get the tang sight in. I need to peck the front sight back about a froghair to the left. Having trouble attaching photos, but here's 3 at 100. I changed my sight picture on the last one (middle one) and fire 5 shots.100713100714 100712

.

The targets look pretty good, considering they were shot @ 100yds with open sights.

A peep sight should let you do better.

BTW, since you indicated you'll be installing a tang peep sight, why don't you consider switching out the rear bbl sight for a folder, which would allow the rifle to have dual zeroes ?

I hunt my tang-sighted rifles with the tang folded & the rear bbl sight "up" (zeroed for 50yds), for close or quickly-presented game shots - with bit of practice, it takes but a moment (uaually more than enough time) to simultainously fold the bbl sight & raise the tang sight, if/when a shot at a longer range (say, 125-150yds) is presented.

Looking pretty good. i am glad you are enjoying success with your rifle, they are a hoot.
I just installed the lyman tang sight on mine. The hole to hole spacing is about 0.070" different, so I had to spend an hour carefully elongating the holes.
I will be test driving it this weekend.
If you can get your hands on some 2400 powder, give it a whirl.

2400 and 44mag! A match made in heaven!

I remember the first outing with my Rossi .44 mag and being blown away by the groups it shot with everything I ran through it. Light and heavy jacketed bullets and loads, light and heavy cast boolits and loads, even round balls into nice small groups. I've had a Ruger carbine in .44 for quite awhile longer and the Rossi is so much easier to load and shoot accurately.

No thinking, knowing; move it right.

Yes, front sight goes opposite of the way you want you point of impact to move....

Hmmm...sounds like a practical idea. I think I still want a barrel mounted rear sight just not a buckhorn. I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
thanks

Nice Shooting! I have to get myself a 92 Carbine 44mag one of these days... I also thought about it in 454...?

Any of you tried either I mentioned?

bloodgroove,

I have both the 44mag and 454 rossis. Both 20 inch carbines. I shoot the 44 about 10 times more than the 454.

BUT, and this is a big but(pun). If I were restricted to only one big bore rossi. It would be a 45 colt. (I have one of those also). I just love that 45. It will do anything that the 44 will do and at slightly less pressure. It will do about 80+% of what the 454 will do. Unless you need the extra power that the 454 brings, then the 45c would be plenty.

Don.... I have both the 44 mag, oct barrel and a 45 LC in Rossi 92's and I agree, while they are both a hoot to shoot, and both very accruate,...the 45 is hands down the go to gun....

I have a Winchester/Miroku 92 in 44 Magnum. DELIGHTFUL. It is a 3" rifle at 100 yards with the OEM buckhorns, and that is adequate for the things I do with the little rifle. I have 2 cast loads I use in it......a 200 grain plain-base (SAECO #446) at 1100 FPS that dupes the 44-40/1873 performance, and a 250 grain Accurate round FN/GC at about 1850 FPS.
