I have the chance to buy one in 357 Maximum. Think this would be a hard barrel to get rid of? I want the frame and I figure to sell the barrel to offset the cost...

Aaron,
There are several people that really like the 357 Max using 180 - 200 grain cast.
Just an FYI.

If the price is reasonable, it'll sell instantly. And you'll later regret selling it. You can shoot .38s and .357s in it too, you know...

Thats a very popular chambering in the contender. I have one and it would be the last barrel I sold.

I think it is a good round. The factory chambering may leave somthing to be desired. I did a chamber cast of mine and the throat/forcing cone for the single shot pistol was rediculously long. Chamber cast looked like a smaller version of a 38-55. Darn close to 1/4" of free bore.
Just a heads up to you.

Guess you have enough answers to figure that it's a good bbl. to have. It's also good for reaming to several wildcats in .35 cal. I once had a .357 Herrett bbl. we reamed to a .35-.375 KAP, a .375 Win. necked to .35; it was great. Shot six elk using 200 gr. Hornady SP's. It was like a .35 Rem. on steroids.

Well, I am picking it up today. I am glad it is a popular caliber. I will sell the barrel to offset the purchase price. I want a 309 JDJ for some longer range deer hunting. Thought about re-chambering a 30-30 barrel. How accurate do re-chamber jobs tend to be on a factory barrel?

Thanks

usually as good as the gunsmith doing the job.

Some people feel that TC doesn't chamber their barrels in such a way as to make them cast bullet friendly. They consider it very advantageous to get a TC barrel in whatever bore diameter they want and have a gunsmith rechamber it. Mike Bellm (http://www.bellmtcs.com/) has a good reputation, even has a wildcat of his own he will be glad to tell you about, .308 Bellm. http://www.bellmtcs.com/BellmTriad/308bellmdata.htm

For a rechamber I would recommend OTT. His chambering can't be beat by anyone. http://www.ottllc.com/
