I got some extra 50 bmg military surplus powder I would like to use in 12ga shotgun shells....any ideas out there?

That stuff tends to be very very slow burning. what powder is it? 867 or 869 maybe?

I am not sure that it would be fast enough to use there BUT it can do okay for plinkers in 30 06 or 308 etc.

You are talking about the extreme ends of the burning spectrum here. Shotgun powders, even the 'slow' ones are very fast for rifle and .50 BMG powder is like coal. I can't see you being able to make this duck fly.

If it even lights off in a 12 guage it will give nothing but squibs.

Jeff is right, way wrong burn rate.

I thought Retumbo was slow until I saw the 50BMG powder on the burn chart. SLOOOOOOOOWWW..................................... ..

The powder is good for 50BMG or lighting the BBQ. It is very slow burning and most likely won't set off properly in a shotgun.

Consider that pistols use fast burning powders and that shotgun powders are a favorite for CB pistol shooters because they burn fast and clean.

Way to slow for shotgun or pistol. Works pretty good in larger rifle cases with a booster charge of 5 to 7 grs of red dot or similar and a cast boolit.

you could fill the case and put an over powder card on top of that then crimp.
I don't think the load will be too useful.

You'll have about as fun trying light wet sand.

White wet sand burns slower than yellow wet sand :)

Only when wet with fresh water. Salt water changes the entire dynamic.

50 BMG powder is very useful in shotshell loading. Size and decap a shotgun case. Add a charge of 700x, red dot, or unique. Add wad. Add 2 ounces of 50BMG powder. Crimp and shoot. Very impressive at night and on rodents to ten feet. saves a lot of lead shot too.
